We are happy to announce that we have won the Third Prize Award – “A Hanging Marketplace” by Stefan Lengen and Henrik Cheung, from FELT Architecture, London – UK.

FROM THE JURY:

The Jury praised this typological experiment that translates formally into a stratified structure. The sense of community is generated by merging people and space through the formal and informal commercial activities that happen at the different platforms. Due to its essential form, the project could look very independent in the context of the neighborhood, but with the dynamic usage it presents a great potential to be a unique spatial experience.

We’re delighted to announce that Stefan and Kyriakos will be running an undergraduate studio at the University of Brighton this year – Architecture BA Studio 09.

Studio 09 will focus this year on the invention and creation of responsive architectural propositions – devices – that will be conceived around the notion of time. Central to the character of the studio is the dedication to making and the reiterative process of the individual investigations.

On Monday after all the studio introductions were done we just had to stop by the beach before heading back to London. Now we’re really looking forward to meeting all the Studio 09 students on Thursday and getting stuck in straightaway.

As London was baking in the heatwave, we were getting our hands dirty here at felt. We finally made the time to design & build our own studio fit-out.

Just some progress photos for now… More on the ideas behind the design and more of the finished studio to follow…

The timber has arrived and we’ve marked-out the desks on the floor…

Shelf framework completed…

Cutting the last desk…

Desks and ‘floating’ table done… Shelves and painting to do…

Almost there now! But, of course, there’s always more to do…

We have signed up to take part in Architect in the House – the joint charitable initiative by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity.

Homeowners can receive an hour’s consultation with a RIBA Chartered Architect, like us at felt, for a suggested donation of £45 to Shelter. Whether it’s inspiration for a study, an extra bedroom, or just better living space, an architect can offer creativity and professional advice.

Anyone who is thinking of undertaking work on their home, no matter how small, can use an architect who has signed up for Architect in the House. We can help people unleash the potential of their homes while helping those with more significant housing problems.

Homeowners can register for their consultation by visiting www.architectinthehouse.org.uk
